Leah Coumont, PhD

Director, Research & Development

Dr. Coumont holds PhD in Chemistry from the University of Alberta for her work preparing functional organic polymers and self-assembled carbon nanomaterials. Over the course of her Undergraduate and Graduate degrees she has accumulated over 13+ years of experience in working with functional organic materials, with a focus on organic synthesis, polymer chemistry, materials characterization, nanomaterials research, and device preparation.

Driven by a strong desire to make a positive contribution to the scientific community, she has developed exceptional expertise in organic materials for electronic applications (polymer light emitting diodes and solar cells), and carbon-based nanomaterials for environmental applications (sensing and CO2 sequestration).

To continue to pursue her love of carbon-based materials and investigate their exciting future applications, Dr. Coumont has joined Graphene Leaders Canada to help develop safe and efficient graphene-based products to solve environmental problems. Dr. Coumont leads a team of 3 PhD’s focused in environment and coatings product development, and a team of 4 technical MSc-Chemistry and senior laboratory technologists.

Kasey Kozicky

Director

Kasey brings more than 37+ years of experience in public accounting responsible for all aspects of accounting, audit, income tax, deal structuring and negotiation along with other services rendered for major engagements. Kasey has been a partner since 1990 in Yaremchuk & Annicchiarico LLP, a Certified Public Accounting Firm, where he was directly involved in the operations of the firm and was responsible for providing direction and strategic planning. For the past year, Kasey has been involved in GLC as a financial advisor to the board and has valuable expertise to bring to GLC as we grow our technology.

Ilya Utkin, PhD

Research Associate

Ilya holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Minsk, Belarus followed by a Post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Alberta.

Ilya is a highly skilled researcher, specialized in optical science with extensive experience in developing sensors for biomedical and industry applications.

Critical areas in his research include the fields of Spectroscopy, Optical sensors, Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy, Non-linear Optics, Fiber-optics, Bio-optics, and Laser Micro-machining

Jason Deacon, PhD

Scientific Lead, Product Development

Jason gained a Masters in Chemistry at Manchester Metropolitan University and continued to pursue both a Masters and later a Ph.D. in Graphene Technology, at The University of Cambridge (Cambridge Graphene Centre).

Critical areas in his research relate to CVD graphene, LPE graphene inks and sensor devices. He has worked with electrical characterization in the form of transfer/output characteristics of transistor devices and has expanded to magnetotransport measurements using Hall bar devices. He incorporated supramolecular chemistry with CVD graphene to create a sensory device by using the host-guest technologies therein.

He is passionate about bringing graphene and 2d-related materials to the real world. He began the pursuit of his dreams in Canada and found Graphene Leaders Canada to be an apt calling. He follows Dr. Coumont’s guidance and shares her passion for green energy in the form of photovoltaic cells.

Brad Krueckl

Senior Technologist

Brad is a highly skilled Chemical Technologist with over 18+ years of Research, Engineering, and Management experience. After graduating from SAIT in 2000, he started working for Agriculture Canada on a 6-month contract moving to Core Laboratories as a lab technologist in their PVT lab. In 2003 he moved to Houston, Texas and joined Schlumberger in their Reservoir Fluids division. In 2012 he transferred back to Schlumberger Canada (DBR Technology Center) where he stayed until 2016. In his 13+ years with the company he held positions as Fluid Analysis Specialist, Lab Supervisor and Engineer in Charge, as well as Senior Technologist roles in both Research and Engineering. He was a part of Schlumberger’s Global standardization team and helped author many of the PVT Labs global operating procedures.
